Now that you know which designer we're talking to, let's learn a little more about them and family comes first:
Husband: Michael, we've been married for 9 1/2 years; he's an AF officer and we met at university
Kids: Just one for now: Colin, an energetic and incredibly precocious 2 year old
Pets: 1 dog, a Bicon Frise named Percival (Percy)
What do you like doing with your family?
We all love the outdoors, so whenever we can we like to hike, camp, or just hang out in our backyard. We're really lucky right now and have a lot to do around where we live, so each week usually includes a trip to the zoo and/or Sea World, a library visit, and at least one trip to the park. We take evening walks together each night and my husband and I both LOVE to cook, so we're always trying out new ingredients and recipes. Fortunately the munchkin is a good eater!
It's an alternate universe and you're computer won't turn on for an entire week, what do you do with yourself?
I'd definitely get more reading done and probably try to be out of the house as much as I could so I didn't see the screen sitting on my desk taunting me. ;)
Alright, the computer's all better - let's talk digi-scrapping for a few minutes.
When did you start designing and how did you learn?
I started scrapping in February 2009, after nearly a year and a half of my good friend hounding me about how easy it was and how much I would appreciate a mess-free hobby once my son was born! She was right! I have a hard time leaving things as-is in a kit though and so began modifying elements almost immediately! I actually first tried my hand at designing for last year's June STS Blog Train, "Daddy and Me" and made my first full kit, "Country Carnival" as a collab with The Scrappy Kat last August.
What program/programs do you use to design?
I use GIMP almost exclusively. I like the control it gives me and it will run on Linux.
Sometimes when I want to run a specific action though, I will switch over to Windows and use PSE.
Where do you get your inspiration?
In large part it comes from things I want to scrap of my son or husband, but can't find "the right" kit for.
How did you pick your digi-scrap name?
My last name is Seal and I've always like alliteration, so "Seal Scraps" just seemed a natural choice; plus it made coming up with an unusual logo easy!
What’s your favorite kit that you've designed?
Hmm, usually it's whatever one I've just finished working on, so that would be "Love, Your Son" - a mother's day kit geared toward boy moms that I released this weekend. I really like how the weeds/messy bouquets and the word art turned out (plus my son is always gathering mashed up bouquets for me, so that makes it special, lol!).
Alright, this is a hard one, but what's your least favorite?
I've probably got to say "Country Carnival". I love the colors and the idea, but when I look back at it there are just so many things I'd do differently now that I know more. There's a good chance I'm going to have to create a "Country Carnival - Redux" at some point just to satisfy my inner perfectionist!
Describe yourself in one word: obsessive-compulsive (hey, it's hyphenated!)
Share a secret with us, what's something that not everyone knows about you?
I love doing research. On pretty much anything. Searching through musty old books or conducting experiments in the lab make me happy. I am a total nerd and grad school was fascinating for me. Can we still be friends? ;)
If I said you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would you go?
Probably Ireland, but it would be a hard choice.
What is your favorite food?
My husband's curry, yum!
Do you collect anything?
Not really actively anymore. Used to be a bit of a rock hound.
What is your favorite TV show?
Big Bang Theory; my husband is a cross between Sheldon and Leonard.
What is your favorite color?
Blue. No yello--- Ahhh! ... What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Alright, thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself and welcome to Stuff to Scrap!
Wait, before you go, I wanted to share a little something with you. It's a pack of QP's using my new "Love, Your Son" kit which you can get at my store here and a coupon code to get the kit for 50% off: Seal_DesignerDarling.
