Getting to Know the Mad Genius

Introducing Jewel, the genius behind Mad Genius Designs

Let's start with the basics:
Name: Jewel
Username at Stuff to Scrap: JewelTheQueen
Blog Address: Madness Or Genius? Or Both?
Store: Mad Genius Designs

Now that you know which designer we're talking too, lets learn a little more about them and family comes first:

Husband: Steve
Kids: 2 boys, age 10 and 11
Pets: Cleo and Sampson, our feline friends

What do you like doing with your family?

We like to get out and enjoy our amazing city. It seems there are at least a dozen cool things going on around here every weekend! We also like to play Blokus. We are all Blokus addicts. Tee hee. Try it, and you'll understand.

It's an alternate universe and you're computer won't turn on for an entire week, what do you do with yourself?

I would read. A lot. I used to devour a book or two a week. I think I'd also play Blokus more.

Alright, the computer's all better - let's talk digi-scrapping for a few minutes.

When did you start designing and how did you learn?

I started in January of 2009. One of the sites I frequent was having a designer challenge that didn't involve being eliminated if I wasn't good enough, and I felt safe to give it a try. The rest is history. I have learned through various designer challenges, tutorials, and a lot of trial and error.

What program/programs do you use to design?

I use my Scrapbooking program, Storybook Creator +, and I also use Photoshop CS3. Honestly I use Storybook more. I love it.

Where do you get your inspiration?

Primarily I look at my photos themselves and see what kits I need. Some of my kits are made with colours someone else has chosen for me and I need to turn them into some kind of theme that fits.

How did you pick your digi-scrap name?

It is based on my blog name, which had been around for a couple of years already. It just seemed like a natural design name for me. I am often moving quickly and have several things on the go, unfinished, at once. I have to work to keep myself focused to get things done and not start 5 other projects. I have this image in my head of the the crazy white haired eccentric who never stops to notice her hair is sticking up all over the place - which is nothing like I actually look, but somehow I identify with it.

What’s your favorite kit that you've designed?

Right now it's my most recent kit, Bright Little Girl. When I design a new one, it will very likely be my new favourite. I am so proud of them when they are done.

Alright, this is a hard one, but what's your least favorite?

My very first kit. I still like some aspects of it, and I may go back and revamp it one day, but for now I just look at it and think 'yep, I was brand new to designing then!'

Describe yourself in one word: complex

Share a secret with us, what's something that not everyone knows about you?

I am actually extraordinarily shy, and I mask it by being ridiculously friendly.

If I said you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would you go?

That's a tough one. Would you be taking care of my kids while I was gone? Because if I need to bring them with me, it totally changes where I'd go.

What is your favorite food?

Chocolate.

Do you collect anything?

I collect suns - they are all over my bathroom. Once I had a free mini kit made with some of them, I may revamp it and put it in the store one day.

What is your favorite TV show?

I am a huge sucker for reality shows. It's like watching a train wreck ... I can't pull my eyes away from watching people interact with each other.

What is your favorite color?

Blue. No, green!

Alright, thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself and welcome to Stuff to Scrap!

Thanks for putting up with me! And to show my appreciation, I have prepared these brag book pages for you all, made with my new release, Bright Little Girl:

You can snag it on 4shared. Leave me some lovin if you like it!
